The Violin Maker's Secret

by Evie Woods
magical realism

On any given day, there are thousands of items slowly gathering dust in the Lost and Found of Heathrow Airport. Unknown to anyone, hidden among the clutter, is a very special object that can change the fortunes of those who possess it – a violin of rare beauty and power.

Now, as if by chance, it has fallen into the hands of three strangers…

Baggage claim agent Devlin, retired teacher Walter, and appraiser Gabrielle have nothing in common, but can these three unlikely guardians unlock the secrets of the violin?

I happened across this book at a small local bookshop while I had time to waste, when my oldest was at a day camp. I didn't even know that Evie had written another book, but after reading her first two, I couldn't pass this up. It was a bit slow to begin with, and I had to start the book 2 separate times, due to missing parts and confusing myself. Once I got into it, it was a quick read. The story goes between present day and back in time when the violin was made, and who it got passed/sold to.

The verdict

Evie Woods once again didn't disappoint in a dual timeline story.
